Zoom / Google Meets / Class Expectations
Welcome to online learning at Methacton High School. To ensure that all students are able to learn, engage and grow together please keep the following items in mind.
General Zoom / Google Meets Guidelines
-
If Zoom goes down go to Google Classroom and click on the Google Meet link at the top of the class. (See example in appendix 3.)
-
Do not share the Zoom / Google Meets link with anyone outside your class.
-
Do not tape, video or screen shot any portion of the Zoom / Google Meets class.
-
Do not post any portion of the Zoom / Google Meets class.
-
Zoom / Google Meets links will be found in Google Classroom.
-
Review the day’s agenda in Google Classroom prior to entry into the class. It can be found in the Agenda portion of Classwork on Google Classroom. (See example in appendix 3.) If the instructor is absent please see the Agenda for an asynchronous assignment.
-
Ensure virtual learning equipment, such as your Chromebook is available and charged. Attending lecture via Zoom or Google Meets on your phone is not ideal for your learning.
-
Make sure that all material in the chat box is relevant to what is going on in class. Please keep all other questions and comments until the end of class when there will be time to seek help from Dr. Cocozza.
-
Zoom sessions are recorded by the instructor but not publicized. If a student is absent they can request any direct instruction from the teacher.
-
Breakout sessions have the same rules and expectations as whole group instruction.
Individual Guidelines
-
Work to join class a few minutes early to ensure proper connection. This is especially important in 1st period as it is the first time your will log on each day.
-
Please ensure that your face is framed in the view screen. (See examples in appendix 1.)
-
Make sure you are appropriately lighted so that your video quality is at its best.
-
Your name on Zoom and Google Meets should be your real name formatted First name then Last Name. Please have your first name be what you would like to be called. Ex. Saquon Jackson
-
Work to ensure that you have an appropriate background. A blank wall, solid color or blurred background is ideal. If your background is not appropriate the teacher will turn off your camera. (See examples in appendix 1.)
-
Please do not take your zoom classes in a public area, choose a place that is quiet and free from distractions. If you are in a loud or inappropriate area the instructor may mute you or turn off your camera to ensure that the class atmosphere is conducive for learning.
-
Please do not walk around with your computer while in class. If you need something pick an appropriate time in the flow of the lesson to do what you need.
-
Please be muted when you are not talking.
-
Dress appropriately--your peers will see you. (See examples in appendix 1 and 2.)
-
Don’t do other private things while on a meeting. (See examples in appendix 2.)
-
Please do not eat during zoom / Google Meets and keep drinking to an appropriate level.
-
If you are given permission to share your screen make sure that everything on it is school appropriate. (See examples in appendix 2.)
-
Please give people more time after they have finished speaking in case they are formulating a new thought.
-
As in real life people will be speaking in “drafts”. Please respect that, as in a brick and mortar classroom, your peers are learning and formulating new ideas. Respect this learning process.
-
Before the end of the Zoom session you must fill in the Google Attendance Form as your exit slip.
In short….
-
Make space for all learners.
-
Be actively engaged.
-
Nothing is set in stone. Speak and write in "draft".
-
AEIOU: Ask questions, Embrace mistakes, Integrate new information, Open your mind to diverse views, Use what you learn.
Any serious violation of the rules will result in the instructor exiting the student from the lesson for the day and contacting parents and administration as appropriate.
